Clays have been esteemed for centuries for beautifying and refreshing the skin when used as a facial mask or body scrub. (From Cleopatra to the healing spas of Rome, to indigenous peoples of the Americas, clays have been used for everything from pimples, black heads and skin tightening, to arthritus, pain and inflammation, to clay pack and poultice treatments.)

This highly mineral-rich Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay is from a pure clay vein layered between white sand near one of the lowest parts of our planet (Death Valley).

Use of clay as a facial mask, body scrub or in a poultice can lift skin impurities and aid in accelerated healing and nourishment of the skin.

Directions for using Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay:

For a facial mask, mix as below. It is best to use a glass, pottery or wooden bowl. Stir the mixture until is a smooth paste. Add more clay or liquid if needed. Start with 1 tablespoon clay and one tablespoon liquid:

- Can be mixed simply with water (equal parts).

- Can be mixed with Vitamineral Green (item # 0047) and water for extra mineralization and special skin treatment (equal parts).

- Can be mixed with apple cider vinegar (equal parts)

- Can be mixed with apple cider vinegar and Vitamineral Green (equal parts).

While the fourth option is our *staff favorite*, for beginners we recommend the first or second option. You will still reap great benefits! After trying it with water once or twice, try it with the apple cider vinegar, making sure to not leave on the skin but a moment or two.

Smooth onto face, avoiding eyes. While the directions on the container recommend letting the mask dry, we recommend rinsing with warm water and a soft cloth before letting it dry. (Many versed estheticians warn against letting facial masks dry completely as dry masks can stretch delicate facial skin out and can contribute to premature wrinkling if done regularly.)

For a body scrub in the shower, just add a little water to a little clay in the palm of your hand, mix together and scrub your body with the paste. Rinse off and enjoy the smooth feeling after exfoliation!

Those detoxing/cleansing especially love this all-over body treatment that can help pull impurities from the skin.

If you have under-arm body odor from detoxing, or certain foods that move through your system (onions, garlic, cumin, curries, etc.), just make a little paste and rub under your arms at the first part of your shower. At the end of your shower, rinse off thoroughly and wash under arms as usual. The clay can help pull odors (however natural they may be) from the under arm skin.
